Why purchase this 2020-(P) bullion release of the U.S. Mint's American Silver Eagle series?
The American Silver Eagle has been annually issued by the U.S. Mint since 1986. This 2020-(P) Silver Eagle bullion coin containing 1 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver is a special release, struck at the Philadelphia Mint. In response to increased demand for precious metals during the spring 2020 crisis, the Mint authorized an Emergency Production of 240,000 Silver Eagles at its Philadelphia facility.
Magnificent Silver Eagle Design
The obverse features the iconic portrait of Walking Liberty borrowed from Adolph A. Weinman's 1916 half dollar design. Liberty is portrayed as a young woman enveloped in an American flag. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2020."
The reverse illustrates a heraldic eagle grasping an olive branch and cluster of arrows, with thirteen stars above. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The imagery is credited to former Chief Engraver John Mercanti.
